Ardhendu Biswas is a grassroot environment activist from India working in the field of climate action such as extensive plantation, native seed collection, preservation and propagation, creating awareness about climate impact and mitigation, community development and promoting green jobs and community literacy. Biswas started the plantation campaign in 2017 with a fictitious story which inspired him to set the goal of planting ten million trees in his lifetime and establishing the Mission Green Universe Foundation and authoring the story, ‘The Man Who Stole Rain’. The setting was in a certain village facing drought for a period of ten years and a poor man who was then compelled to steal water for his son and got caught. He was punished to plant ten thousand trees. This fictitious story was shortlisted among the top three stories among 1530 entries in the Mumbai Lit Fest 2018 my story contest. Ardhendu then started the Mission Green Universe campaign to create a sustainable generation through the spread of green culture. Presently, he is leading the green culture movement that is tackling climate change through extensive plantation, climate action-cum livelihood opportunities, native plant seeds collection, preservation and plant production, distribution, setting up local seed bank, creating awareness about climate impact and mitigation actions, growing a climate conscious and nature care young and vibrant community in India. Already he with his team planted and distributed ten lakhs trees, and set up native plant nursery.
He has been a Goodwill Ambassador of the International Online Climate Activist Network. He has been honored by hundreds of local organizations and in 2023 Zee24 Ghanta media awarded him.
His message to the world is “Don’t forget that trees still grow from seeds, neither from Google nor from guns. So stop war, plant for peace, plant for planet”.
He believes that “Men are mere guests to this planet, not the rulers. Nature is the ultimate truth. Caring Nature, Caring Future”.
