Health, Gender Equality & Sustainable livelihoods

“Rémé,” Cameroonian street slang for “being a mother,” beautifully encapsulates the heart of Health For Rémé. This vital program by Association DG3, led by Executive Director Manka Mafor Awasom, tackles the silent challenges of pregnancy and parenting for women in Cameroon. Inspired by Manka’s own isolating experiences with hyperemesis gravidarum, the program directly addresses the need for culturally relevant healthcare information.
Health For Rémé directly supports UN SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by providing 24/7 online health information and a robust support forum. It also champions SDG 5: Gender Equality by empowering women with knowledge to make informed healthcare decisions. Quarterly family camps workshops are usually done to offer in-person capacity building, strengthening support networks to mothers and families while improving the skills of community healthcare workers. Maternity kits are distributed to underprivileged mothers, ensuring equitable access to resources.
Our recently released handbook, debunking common myths on pregnancy and parenting, provides direct, accessible and answers to participants’ most pressing questions, even offline. Health For Rémé is committed to reducing maternal mortality and morbidity, strengthening health systems, and fostering healthier families in Cameroon.
