One Kit, One Life: Turning Breast Cancer Awareness into Action

1 Jul 2025

Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women worldwide, yet countless women still lack access to basic information and early detection tools that could save their lives. While mammograms are the gold standard, breast self-examination (BSE) remains vital especially in regions where medical services and screening technologies are scarce, such as in Togo.

To bridge this gap, ASL Pink Foundation distributes BSE kits to women in Togo. Each kit contains a reusable BSE medical pad to enhance sensitivity, a tracking journal with pre-filled symptoms to monitor monthly observations, and an educational pamphlet with step-by-step guidance.

For Geraude, one of the women who received a kit, the impact was immediate: “The kit’s content is very good. It gave me more knowledge about breast cancer and the steps of BSE. I hope more women can have access to the tracking journal so they can monitor their bodies. Thank you again for the kit,” she shared.

Building on this impact, ASL Pink Foundation recently received a grant from The Pollination Project to launch the Breast Health Monitoring Project. The initiative allows kit owners to submit their BSE tracking journals electronically every trimester for review by a health professional. Participants receive feedback and are referred for screening if concerning symptoms are detected.

Through this work, ASL Pink is advancing Sustainable Development Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, turning simple tools into powerful agents of change. Learn more at www.aslpink.foundation.
