Alwy Ahmed Mohamed is a Kenyan educator, literacy advocate, writer, mentor, and youth changemaker committed to using education and literacy as powerful tools for empowerment and social transformation. He is a passionate advocate for Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), with a particular focus on literacy promotion and youth empowerment. As a Literacy Ambassador, he has actively promoted reading, writing, and creative expression in more than fifteen schools across Central Java, Indonesia. Through school visits, literacy campaigns, motivational talks, and mentoring sessions, he has encouraged students to develop strong reading habits, strengthen their writing skills, and recognize education as a pathway to personal and community development.
Through his personal literacy initiatives, Smart Youth Academy, mentorship activities, and involvement with community organisations, he has encouraged young people to develop reading, writing, communication, critical-thinking, and leadership skills. His work is rooted in the belief that literacy is more than the ability to read and write—it is a pathway to confidence, opportunity, informed decision-making, and active participation in society.
He has also contributed to initiatives supporting students from underserved communities, including the We See You Foundation, where he has supported more than 50 students. Through mentoring and educational outreach, he strives to help young people recognise their potential and pursue their academic and personal aspirations.
As the author of four books, Alwy has further contributed to literacy development by inspiring young people to engage with literature, storytelling, and creative writing. His initiatives have directly reached hundreds of students and educators, fostering a culture of literacy and lifelong learning in diverse educational settings. Despite challenges such as limited literacy resources, varying levels of student engagement, and differences in educational backgrounds, he has remained committed to expanding access to quality educational opportunities.
Beyond local engagement, Alwy contributes to global literacy development through his role as a judge for The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition in 2025 and 2026. In this capacity, he supports one of the world’s most prestigious youth writing platforms by evaluating submissions from young writers across the Commonwealth, helping to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication among the next generation.
Through literacy advocacy, authorship, mentorship, and international judging responsibilities, Alwy continues to advance inclusive and equitable quality education, empowering young people with the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
