Durosinmi Quadri is a young pharmacist and climate-health innovator addressing one of Nigeria’s most overlooked public health and environmental challenges which is unsafe pharmaceutical waste (unused, leftover, expired medicines) disposal. Through his initiatives, PharmaBin (now rebranded as PharmaEco), he is building a community-based system for the safe collection and disposal of unused and expired medicines, alongside pioneering efforts to recycle pharmaceutical packaging such as empty blister packs.

His work aligns strongly with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). To date, Quadri has directly reached over 700 individuals through awareness campaigns (both online and physical) and engaged secondary school students on safe medicine use and the dangers of self-medication. He has also successfully onboarded 20+ community pharmacies to participate in a pilot medicine take-back initiative, creating a scalable model for safe disposal at the grassroots level.

Despite facing significant challenges including lack of infrastructure, absence of recycling technology for blister packs in Nigeria, and limited funding, he has demonstrated resilience by engaging regulators, healthcare professionals, and local fabricators to explore sustainable solutions.

Quadri’s work has earned multiple recognitions, including the Stephanie Davis Waste Reduction & Pollution Prevention Award (2026), Top 10 African Youth Voices in Climate & Health, Digital Health Africa (2025) and several innovation grants. His initiative stands out for integrating public health, environmental sustainability, and circular economy principles while positioning him as a leading youth voice in climate-health innovation across Africa.
