Frankie Kibagendi is a dedicated intersex activist who began their advocacy journey in 2013, becoming a trailblazer in promoting the rights and visibility of intersex individuals in Kenya and across Africa. They are the founder of the padded boxer, a groundbreaking innovation designed to provide comfort and confidence for intersex persons.

Frankie has played a key role in significant milestones for intersex rights in Kenya. They were actively involved in the 2019 general census, which for the first time recognized intersex persons as a distinct category. In 2022, they contributed to the enactment of the Children Act, a landmark law that included protections for intersex children.

In addition to their advocacy work, Frankie made history as the first openly intersex person to vie for a public office in Kenya, breaking barriers and inspiring many in the fight for equality and inclusion.

As a board member of the African Intersex Movement and Intersex Kenya Education and Advocacy (I.K.E.A), Frankie collaborates with local and international networks to advance policies and create awareness. They also advocate for intersex refugees and actively participate in global forums, such as the ILGA Conference, to amplify intersex voices on an international stage.

Frankie’s work is rooted in a vision of a world where intersex individuals are respected, valued, and empowered to live authentically, free from stigma and discrimination.
