In high school, Nokuthula had the privilege of serving in the Zimbabwe Junior Parliament as an MP and Child Minister of Foreign Affairs. She went on to serve as a high school teacher at George Silundika High, Nhlambabaloyi Secondary and Inyanda High school as an English and Portuguese language teacher. In 2019 she quit her job to start her organization, Unathi Children’s Network Trust. She is the Founding Executive Director in this institution where they advocate for children’s rights. She passionately enjoys being a voice for women and young girls, who find it hard to stand for themselves and speak out for themselves.
Her organization has had an impact in different communities. When COVID-19 started, the organization started a feeding aid program for 200 orphans and vulnerable children where the children were catered breakfast and lunch everyday till the end of 2021. This initiative was done so as to curb the children from exploitation in the mining areas of Inyathi in Matabeleland North. In the Chiyadzwa community of Manicaland, the organization has done advocacy on sexual exploitation of girl children through “child marriages”. In South Africa, Unathi Children’s Network Trust has done advocacy in one of the squatter camps which is prone to violence against women and girls. She has received national and international recognition for her work
Her organization has received contributions from government institutions, namely, the Ministry of Public service and Social Welfare whereby they were awarded food hampers as well as from friends of the organization in the diaspora. This support helped in feeding the 200 orphans and vulnerable in Inyathi.
The Unathi Children’s Network is inspired by specialists from various cultural backgrounds who are driven by the zeal and passion to work for the rights of the Child. The network provides an enabling environment for the child to exercise healthy living, promote vocational and life skills to children in an endeavor to achieve socio-economic empowerment, human rights, health security, dignity and justice. Unathi Children’s Network seeks to provide social, educational and economic empowerment to women and children. The organization’s main mandate is to safeguard the rights of the Child and provide for the well-being of Children in need more particularly:
a] Children exposed to any form of abuse
b] Children deprived of education
c] Children suffering from ill health, physical and mental.
