Rosselina Senora Ungkak led an inclusive project that enables hearing individuals and hearing-impaired individuals to interact and engage with each other through the use of sign language and eliminates the barriers and gap in social connection and communication between everyone.
This project name “Sign & Tell” comprises tutorials and interactive events that create an environment for hearing and hearing-impaired students to learn, use and communicate in sign language. The physical and virtual tutorials educate hearing individuals on sign language by pairing them with hearing-impaired individuals as their conversational buddies. A module was specifically developed to assist this educational experience. Other than the tutorials, the project also organizes activities such as game challenge, sports and arts involving all students and sign language is used as the medium of instruction and interaction.
This project has benefitted over 200 students at Keningau Vocational College while empowering 12 hearing-impaired students who acted as mentors for the tutorials. It also has reached the public through two major education events in Tuaran and Kota Kinabalu where this project was put on display and the team led by Rosselina herself engaged with visitors of all walks of life who expressed interest in this project.
This project was pitched at the national level Social Project Challenge hosted by myHarapan and sponsored by Telekom Malaysia in 2025 and it won 1st runner-up spot and received a grant worth of MYR 3,300 to scale up the project. It was also recognized as a World Changer Award recipient by SENIA in the same year.
