Tanuj has extensively worked in furthering the objectives of SDG 4 and 13 impacting over 3000 lives. Tanuj Samaddar is the Country Lead for India at Climate Change Writers and a recipient of the Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar, conferred by the President of India. He has also been honored with the Karmaveer Chakra Award by UNDP, in recognition of his contributions to youth leadership and social impact. An artist, youth leader, and public policy enthusiast, Tanuj is currently associated with IIT Guwahati and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Government of India.
He has previously served as a Global Youth Advisor on the Global Youth Advisory Council in Zimbabwe, in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Tanuj is an active member of the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) Working Group of YOUNGO-UNFCCC, the Commonwealth Youth Climate Network (CYCN), and UNESCO’s Inclusive Policy Lab. His global engagements also include an association with the International Women’s Peace Group, Busan Branch (South Korea).
Recognized internationally, Tanuj was nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), UK. In 2023, he was appointed a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky, the highest civilian honor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in recognition of his achievements. Closer home, the Government of Assam acknowledged his contributions by nominating him for the state’s third-highest civilian award, the “Assam Gaurav”. He is also a UN delegate representing India in the SB 62 of UNFCCC and a Country Delegate of IUCN and would represent India at the World Conservation Congress , Abu Dhabi.
Hailing from Assam, one of India’s most sequestered regions geographically and socio-economically, Tanuj aspires to represent the voices of hundreds of young people from his region, ensuring that their perspectives find space in national and global discourses.
As the Country Ambassador for India at Youth Opportunities, leads a network of 3,200 youths, making global opportunities accessible. At IIT Guwahati, he developed an e-module on Rabies with CreINDIA. As Global Youth Advisor with Art of Health-Zimbabwe, he influenced 2,000+ youths worldwide through the ART-4-SERENITY mental health project.
