Act Early Climate Education Campaign

24 Mar 2025

As a young changemaker, I was not aware of climate change until 2022, when I volunteered with Revamp Rave Network, A Climate Conservation Initiative in Nigeria and was undergoing courses on sustainability and climate change. I realized that climate change comes with change in the weather pattern which is a normal phenomenon.

Though after the pre industrial revolution (1750-1850) factories have been witnessing increase in global consumptions which has improved countries GDP but increased global temperature and GreenHouse Gas.

Human Activities have been one of the major causes of increase in the global temperature due to consumptions and procurement and based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals which focuses on addressing this towards achieving this global goals of 1.5 celsius below 2.0 celsius by 2030. Based on research, increase in global temperature has been linked to increase in carbon emissions, wastes, and a continuous decline in biodiversity which has continuously hampering food supply chain, public health.

In 2024, I was able to visit some schools in the slums communities of Ajegunle and Mushin in Lagos Nigeria, I realized 3 out 5 young people living in these slums communities don’t understand what climate change is and how they contribute to the increase in the global temperature through their needs and immediate wants.

I then created an Initiative called SkillUpYouth Green Project Africa to help address issues of young people’s inclusion in climate advocacy in Africa and between 2023 and 2024 we’ve been able to reach out to over 200 young people globally on climate education and waste management which is a true testament of what can be achieved when action is taken on a community basis – it can blossom into something impactful.
