My Impact Story
26 Mar 2025
I am Hussain Hamzah, from Nigeria with a Bachelor’s degree in History (BA). My expertise lies in higher education, where I have gained proven experience and success in areas related to sustainable development goals (SDGs) and operations management. I am committed to upholding human and gender rights and stand firmly as one of the few men advocating for women’s rights in Nigeria. I take pride in my work as a change-maker and am dedicated to promoting positive community transformation through integrity, diligence, and humanitarian efforts.
With over seven years of active involvement in climate-related initiatives, I have deepened my understanding of climate change, its causes, and its wide-ranging impacts on both human and environmental systems. I have been privileged to engage in various climate education programs, where I have helped more than 4,000 individuals, particularly students and local community members, understand the urgent need for climate action.
Notable achievements include my participation in the Climate Leadership Fellowship organized by Climate Smart Nigeria (2021), where I executed a community project focused on empowering young students with knowledge on climate change. Additionally, in 2023, I participated in the Climate Actors Accelerator Programme by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), where I led a team of volunteers on a tree planting initiative in my community. The same year, I took part in the ECO30 Challenge, a campaign to raise awareness about sustainability and advocate for climate action through social media.
I believe that empowering youth and creating opportunities for them to actively participate in sustainable initiatives can positively impact both individuals and communities. Through these experiences, I have realized that young people, when provided with the right resources and opportunities, can become powerful agents of change. Their engagement in local and global initiatives, especially concerning climate change and SDGs, is key to shaping a better future.
In 2024, I led the Sustainable Climate Change Community Ambassadors Bootcamp, which focused on equipping young individuals with the knowledge to become climate change advocates in their respective communities. Furthermore, I have consistently worked with secondary schools in Zaria, Kaduna State, to raise awareness about the SDGs and promote youth participation in global sustainability efforts.
My mission remains clear: to inspire and equip young people with the tools they need to influence their communities, adopt climate-smart practices, and contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Through continued efforts, I am committed to creating opportunities for young people to make positive contributions toward a sustainable and inclusive future.
