Che Divine Nsoh, is a young Climate and Ocean advocate from Cameroon whose passion for advocacy ignited from harsh personal experiences of the effects of climate change. He grew up in the local community of Chomba in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, raised by a single mother whose main source of income was agriculture. During a certain period, severe erosion destroyed all the farming yields which plunged the family into a severe economic crisis resulting in him dropping out of school for a year. After moving to Limbe, a coastal city in Cameroon to further his education, he still experienced the effects of climate change with frequent flooding occurrence in the school’s environment. This disrupted his education again as most at times classes were canceled and on some days, he and his classmates will sit in a waterlogged classroom for lessons..
With these experiences, he started connecting dots to find out why all these were happening until he realized they were all impacts of climate change.
He is now an agent of change in the Climate and Ocean space with special focus on Climate and Ocean education and also implementing community based solutions. As an advocate, he has been involved in developing and also participating in many community driven solutions that seeks to build youth capacity in the area of climate change and ocean literacy. He served as a volunteer Head of Programs and Sustainability Lead Trainer at Make it Greener NGO for two years where he designed and code signed ground breaking projects like "The Eco Leadership Initiative", an initiative to train and build young eco champions which he with the support of other team members trained 50 young eco leaders. Also, he has hugely been involved in the implementation of a remarkable project for youth known as ‘The Youth Engagement in Environmental Protection’, an initiative aimed at empowering 3000 young Cameroonians to become stewards for environmental protection so as to develop long lasting solutions for climate change, biodiversity loss and sustainable consumption of natural resources.
Che is currently the Development and Human Resource Officer for the Association for Community Awareness - ASCOA an international organization whose mission is to improve the lives of underserved communities by building self-reliance. At ASCOA, he contributes significantly to the association’s groundbreaking projects focused on marine conservation and environmental protection. He is hugely involved in projects like the Cameroon Beach Cleanup Day, an initiative by ASCOA which is aimed at combating marine debris across coastal areas in Cameroon. This initiative mobilizes over 400 volunteers every year to provide them with relevant knowledge on climate change, waste management, marine debris and marine conservation while also leading them for massive beach cleanup activities.
Overall, he has empowered over 3000 young people and worked relentlessly to implement and contribute to climate, environmental and marine conservation initiatives.
